What Makes You Smile Like Nothing Else Can?

Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again, Rejoice!

That was my first tweet this morning because, even though the morning didn’t begin exactly as planned, I knew it was going to be an amazing day.  Why do we sometimes let a few bad moments of our day ruin what’s left of it?  I’ve been guilty of it more times than I would like to admit.

What I’ve learned is that I can completely change my day by:

  • Taking a deep breath
  • Saying a prayer for help and strength
  • Thinking about things that make me happy.

What are some things that make me happy; what makes me smile?

As a mom:  my babies.  I love watching them sleep and holding them close.  It makes me smile when they tell me they love me or hug or kiss me on their own.

As a wife:  My husband makes me smile when we’re walking, and he reaches over to hold my hand.

As a teacher:  The moment a student is successful in something she didn’t realize she could do.   That moment when the “light bulb” goes off on something she’s been struggling with learning.

As a youth leader, writer, and speaker:  When a girl realizes she’s worth so much more than she ever knew.

As a princess (daughter of God): When I can clearly tell that it was God’s words spoken or written and not my own.

What makes you smile like nothing else can?

  1. I did exactly the same three things you mentioned: taking a deep breath, praying for strength, and thinking about what makes me happy, this morning. What makes me smile is when my sweet children hug me or kiss me. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Thank you for sharing as well. It’s difficult sometimes. I just have to tell myself that it doesn’t benefit me in any way to let my day be dictated by something that happened. We may not have control over the things that occur, but we do have control over how we let it affect us.
