I’m learning that everything can be blogworthy.  Last night, I was telling my husband about a conversation with our son, and he immediately saw its use in here.

I was snuggling with Elijah last night before bed and singing to him.  His bathroom light was on and bedroom door opened apparently at just the right angle, and I kept seeing something on the door.  The more I was singing, the more I realized it was a cross.  Eric had annointed the room with oil at one time, and it was still visible with the reflection of the bathroom light.  After I finished, I said something about seeing the cross Daddy had put on his door.  I said “Isn’t that cool?  It’s like Jesus is telling you that he is standing at your door keeping you protected every night.”

He said, “it’s only when the bathroom light is on, though.”

I responded by saying, “Even when the door is closed and the light is off, that cross is still there.  Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there.”

How cool is that?  It was just something in our daily routine that allowed me to unintentionally teach a lesson about faith to my son. 

Hebrews 11:1 says Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

The only way to have a real relationship with God is to have faith in who he is.  He is always with us even though we can’t see him.  Just like that cross on my son’s door, it’s still there when the light is off and the door is closed.  He can’t see it, but he can be certain it never left.

When we let the light shine in our lives, people can see him all over us.  Even when that light gets clouded by the dark times we go through, God is still with us.  Matthew 5:14-15 says “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.”

When we let our lights shine, we can help build the faith of those around us who need something more visible.  Remember when you were learning how to have faith, and it helped to see God’s work around you?  Be that same light for your friends and family, and help their faith grow.
