If you’ve known me for any amount of time, you know I love loving on students so much. I can’t explain it. It just brings me such joy to encourage, serve, and love them. One of the ways I do this is by reminding them constantly who they are and that they were created for a special purpose.
Recently I spoke to young girls and their moms about how beautiful they are, but the enemy wants to hit us in this area to bring about insecurities. Can I just tell you how much my heart was hurting when I saw how many of those beautiful faces look at themselves in the mirror and see only the flaws?
When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see all the flaws, or are you able to see the beauty that resides in you? What I learned at this event was that most were quick to raise their hands when I asked if they saw flaws when they looked in the mirror. However, they almost all had some form of anxiety when I asked them to look into the mirror and say, “I’m beautiful. I wouldn’t change a thing.”
How about you? Look in the mirror and tell yourself that very thing. Is it difficult? Why?
Why do we feel the need to pick ourselves apart and bring out only what we see as flaws?
I’ll ask the question I’m known to ask every girl I talk to: Who told you those areas were flaws? Who told you something about you isn’t good enough, pretty enough, or valuable enough? My God did not say those things to you, and what my God says is true.
What does God say about it?
Did you know the bible is full of scripture about how wonderful and beautiful you are? He never wastes an opportunity to remind you of the perfection that is you. Here are just a few examples to hide in your heart:
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:14The king is enthralled by your beauty.
Psalm 45:11Before I formed you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart.
Jeremiah 1:5He predestined you to be adopted as his daughter through Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:5Therefore, you are a princess because you were adopted by the King of kings.
1 Timothy 6:15You truly are a masterpiece created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for you to do.
Ephesians 2:10
Don’t let anyone tell you your less than or flawed. Don’t you dare look in the mirror and say those things to yourself. Instead, remind yourself of the scriptures above. Keep them on your mirror so you don’t forget because, Girl, you are absolutely beautiful!
