I love what I get to do. I know I say that so often, but I really do. One of the things I love about it is finding people with similar callings. Rebekah and I “met” through our similar blogging. I jumped at the idea of interviewing Rebekah and let you know a little more about her newly released book. Here’s what she had to say:
Can you tell me a little bit about Beyond Waiting?
Beyond Waiting is all about stepping out of our “one day my prince will come” daydreams and focusing on the life God has given us to live here and now. It digs into the romantic dreams in a woman’s heart but puts the main focus on the other dreams which are equally important (and more often overlooked). While exploring seven different definitions of the word wait, Beyond Waiting reveals the pitfalls of merely waiting for Prince Charming. It’s about pursuing your dreams and allowing God to create a beautiful fairytale out of your life.
What type of readers will enjoy this book?
The book was written for single women in their teens and twenties, but I’ve been told it’s made an impact on single women well into their seventies. I guess that just goes to show that no matter how old they get, women never stop dreaming of happily ever after.
What is one thing you want the reader to take away from this book?
There is more to life than happily ever after. You were not born half a person, and therefore you do not need a man to complete you. God created you as a complete person with thoughts and dreams and your own unique personality. Your dreams aren’t meant for someone else to fulfill. I pray that those who read Beyond Waiting will walk away with a renewed sense of purpose and a determination to live every moment to the fullest.
Is there an author that has influenced your writing? How?
Shannon Primicerio* had an enormous impact on my life as a teenager. Her words made Jesus come alive to me and probably influenced this book more than I know. I specifically incorporated her analogy of a God who dances, but there are several other truths that slipped in there because she first instilled them in me. I was so excited when I met her at a writer’s conference and she actually offered to endorse the book for me.
Where did you get the idea to write over this specific topic?
You don’t have to look too far to find someone who is unsatisfied with her single status. It was a conversation about waiting for Prince Charming with one such friend that first sparked the idea. I remember walking away from her thinking, “What does it actually mean to wait?” I went home, punched that question into my Google search box, and discovered seven definitions that I felt need to be addressed. After a lengthy argument with God over why I wasn’t the perfect vessel for this assignment, I found myself laboring over the keyboard to share the message that beat in my heart.
