Misty Fitch | Fearfully Made

I remember last summer when my niece and I were talking, and she saw my ankle bracelet with a dangling crown on it.  I mentioned that I needed to get her something with a crown to wear because she’s a princess.  Her response was a very defensive, “No I’m not.  I am not a princess.”

“But you are,” I said to her.  “You are God’s daughter, which makes you a real princess.”

I don’t think she had ever heard that before, and she kind of fell silent.  So often if someone calls us a princess, it comes with a negative connotation.  For some, it says that they are spoiled.  For others, it says they are girly.  Does that word come across as negative when you hear it?

Let’s change our way of thinking.  If you have decided to follow Christ, then you have been adopted into his family.  You are now a child of God ~ a daughter of God.  Because he is the King of kings, you are a real princess!

YOU ARE A REAL PRINCESS!  How cool is that?  It doesn’t mean you’re spoiled, and it doesn’t mean you have to be a girly girl.  It does mean that you have been set apart, and you know what else?  YOU are absolutely, flawlessly beautiful!

WAIT!! Don’t stop reading now.  Do you not believe me?  God says so. . .

You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.  Psalm 139:13-16 NIV

 

See what I mean?  YOU were fearfully and wonderfully made!  God spent time creating YOUR innermost being, knitting together every part of who you are while you were in your mother’s womb.  When he created you, he created a masterpiece.

 

What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator.

Does a clay pot argue with its maker?

Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, “Stop, you’re doing it wrong!”

Does the pot exclaim, “How clumsy can you be?”

How terrible it would be if a newborn baby said to its father, “Why was I born?”

or if it said to its mother, “Why did you make me this way?”

This is what the Lord says – the Holy One of Israel and your Creator:

“Do you question what I do for my children?

Do you give me orders about the work of my hands?”

Now how can you argue with your creator?  He is an artist who created you in his image.  The artist always knows what he is doing.  Who better to tell us what beauty is than the one who created the sunsets, mountains, oceans and flowers?  You are so much more beautiful than all of these things combined.

If you look at yourself and see only flaws, your eyes are not seeing clearly.  More than likely your eyes are looking for what the world tells us is beautiful.  Have you ever noticed that there is so much emphasis on what makes a person beautiful, but it’s something that doesn’t exist?  Even those “perfectly beautiful” models are being airbrushed in magazines.  Instead of listening to the world’s idea of beauty, which is impossible to reach, listen to the words of your creator who knows what true beauty is.  True beauty, according to the one who created beauty, is more than just possible.  It already exists both inside and outside of you.  Just take the time to open your eyes – remove the veil that covers them – and see the beauty of God’s creation.  See the princess that you are.
