Fit Friday Issue 7



Did you know that you can do something to help yourself become more fit without ever even getting out of bed?  That’s right.  It’s one of the easiest things you can do, and it will give you instant results!

Tip of the Week (Stay Positive)

You can work out all day long, eat as healthy as possible, and work at becoming spiritually fit as I’ve mentioned in past issues, but they are all fairly worthless if you don’t keep a positive mindset and attitude.  If you find most of your thoughts are negative and most of your words complaints, your body cannot reach its full potential.

This doesn’t mean you can never complain about anything because stuff happens.  Sometimes you need to vent your anger or frustration, but then leave it alone.  What’s the point in constantly complaining about the same thing over and over?  Is it productive in any way?  All it does is bring your attitude down, and those who have negativity residing in them on a regular basis can easily find themselves feeling depressed, tired, run down, and lacking energy.  It’s amazing what your thoughts alone can do to help improve your physical fitness.

It may take some getting used to but when a negative thought comes to your mind, take hold of it before you say anything.

…and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5b

Take those negative thoughts as soon as they reach your mind, and immediately replace it with a positive thought.  Say it out loud if you need to.  Replace it with scripture.  After a while, you’ll see that you don’t have to make a conscious decision to take that thought captive and replace it.  Before you know it, you’ll realize it has become a part of who you are, and your outlook on life and yourself will change.  You will become a happier you, and people will enjoy spending time with you even more.

How Do I Do This?

Almost all of my girls have asked me the question, “How do I take my thoughts captive?”  It’s probably easier than you think.  To take a thought captive, you must first be aware they even exist.  Sometimes thoughts come and go without even realizing you had that thought.

Think about the things you see and listen to.  Maybe you used to cringe every time you heard a certain word come out of someone’s mouth, but now you’ve become almost immune to it because you’ve heard it so much.  Maybe you say those words and find yourself getting in trouble by teachers or parents because you “accidentally” say them out loud without realizing it.  Sex scenes in a movie are no longer a big deal because you know they’re in almost every movie.  You’ve become immune to it and might even leave the movie never having realized it was in there.

So take that immunity away, and keep yourself aware throughout your day.  What kinds of thoughts do you have whether your mouth speaks them or not?  If they’re mostly negative in nature, here are a few examples of how to turn them around:

  • Thought: I’m so ugly.  Replace it with Truth:  No way! The king is enthralled by my beauty.  Psalm 45:11.
  • Thought:  Look at what she’s wearing just to get the boys’ attention.  Replace:  Just like me, she was fearfully and wonderfully made.  Psalm 139:14  I wish she could see that she’s pretty without those clothes.   (You never know her story, either – everyone has a story to lead them to their decisions).
  • Thought:  I hate my life.  Replace: The enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy.  Jesus came to give me an abundant life John 10:10.  I have food to eat, clothes to wear, and shelter in the rain.  My life could be a lot worse.
  • Thought:  Don’t you hate Mrs. Teacher?  She’s so nosy and always gets in our business.  Replace: Mrs. Teacher is the only one in my life who asks me about things I like and do outside of class.  Maybe she actually cares.
  • Thought:  My boss is so annoying.  We have to do the dumbest things or we get in trouble.  I’m going to quit.  Replace: I don’t have any idea what rules are set for him by his boss. Maybe he doesn’t like the rules he’s giving us either, but he has to.  I forget he has someone to answer to also.

Maybe these aren’t the types of negative thoughts you have, but hopefully it gives you an idea of ways you can take those you do have captive and replace them with something positive.  It may seem like a minor thing, but it truly can make a difference in your wellbeing.

  1. This is SO very hard to do. But so so rewarding if practiced with great intent!!!
    Along with controlling your thoughts and where they lead~ but controlling your environment to protect your positive attitude and mindset is key as well! Don’t you agree? 🙂 I would love to hear your thoughts (in blog form of course!) On keeping it real when surrounded by negativity, stress, and uncontrolled emotions (of others!)


    1. I actually almost added that here, but I knew it would be pretty long. I’ll definitely add it in a future post. I always struggled with negativity when I was younger because of the environment I grew up in, so I find it so easy to fall right back in if I’m surrounded by others who are negative. Be looking for a post about it soon!

I heard Joyce Meyer say something along the lines like… “… we spend hours getting our outer man ready in the morning, but did you spend even as much time getting your inner man ready?…” (paraphrasing) You are so right. We can work out like there’s no tomorrow… nip this, tuck that, fix this, hide that… but we have to realize that we are all (man and woman) fearfully and wonderfully made by God. And it starts with our thoughts. We have to get a positive image of who we are in Christ.
